Patanjali MD Balkrishna Files Plea Against IMA President

Patanjali Ayurved’s MD, Acharya Balkrishna, filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking action against IMA President, Dr. RV Asokan, for criticizing the court’s remarks on doctors’ conduct. Asokan stated it was unfortunate for the court to criticize IMA and private doctors, terming it demoralizing. Balkrishna’s plea alleges Asokan’s statements interfere with justice and lower the court’s dignity. The case is set for hearing on Tuesday before a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanudin Amanullah. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is also hearing a petition by IMA against Patanjali Ayurved’s alleged misleading advertisements.

NIA Court Sentences ISKP Members for Terror Conspiracy

A special NIA court sentenced five individuals, including two women, for their involvement in an ISIS-Khorasan Province (ISKP) conspiracy to spread terror in India. Jahanzaib Sami received prison terms for planning IED blasts and promoting ISIS ideology. Hina Bashir Beigh, Abdullah Basith, and Sadiya Anwar Shaikh were also convicted under UAPA for aiding terrorist activities. Nabeel Siddick Khatri was sentenced for funding weapons procurement and carrying out preparatory blasts. Two suspects were arrested in Delhi, while others were apprehended in Pune. The trial against Abdur Rahman, a medical student involved in ISIS activities, is ongoing.

Supreme Court to Examine Anticipatory Bail in Multiple Cases

The Supreme Court agreed to consider the legal question of granting anticipatory bail when the accused is already arrested in another case. CJI DY Chandrachud noted the issue’s significance during a criminal matter hearing. Senior Advocate Siddarth Dave highlighted concerns about the maintainability of such pleas. The CJI expressed reluctance to restrict anticipatory bail in such scenarios, emphasizing its essence and purpose. The bench will hear final arguments on the matter on Wednesday. The discussion revolves around whether an individual arrested in one case can receive anticipatory bail in another case.

GOVERNMENT SCHEMES 

Vocational Education and Training Loan Scheme

(Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment)

Objective:

The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to youth from marginalized backgrounds, particularly those belonging to the target group of NSKFDC, to enhance their skills and employability through vocational education and training courses.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must belong to the target group of NSKFDC and have secured admission in a course supported by a government ministry/department/organization or by entities supported by NSDC or state skill missions. The course duration should be between 6 months and 2 years, leading to a certificate/diploma/degree recognized by the government.

Loan Quantum:

Up to 90% of expenses, subject to a maximum of Rs. 4,00,000, can be financed for courses up to 2 years. Interest is charged at 4% per annum, with a 0.5% rebate for women. Repayment is allowed within 7 years.

Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Scheme

(Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment)

Objective:

The scheme targets economic empowerment and upliftment of marginalized groups such as SCs, OBCs, EBCs, DNTs, and Safai Karamcharis through skill training, aiming to skill around 2,71,000 individuals over five years. It focuses on long-term and short-term skills, leading to employment or self-employment.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates aged between 18 to 45 years, belonging to SC, OBC (with family income below Rs. 3,00,000), EBC (with family income below Rs. 1,00,000), DNT, transgender community, or Safai Karamcharis (including waste pickers) and their dependents are eligible.

Types of Skilling Programs:

The scheme offers free training, stipends, wage compensation, and certification in up-skilling/re-skilling, short-term training, entrepreneurship development programs, and long-term training in demand-driven sectors.
