Muslim law
Muslim law, also known as Islamic law, is a set of religious principles which govern the moral and legal duties of Muslims. The basis of Muslim law is the Qur’an, which is considered by Muslims to be the word of Allah. The laws are derived from the Qur’an as well as from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, known as the sunnah. Muslim law covers a wide range of issues ranging from personal matters, such as marriage, divorce, and inheritance, to public matters, such as business transactions, criminal law, and foreign relations. Muslim law is applied differently in different countries, depending on the local legal system. In some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Muslim law is the law of the land. In other countries, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, Muslim law is only applied in certain contexts, such as in family law.
