SUICIDE DUE TO BREAKUP OF A LONG RELATIONSHIP IS NOT ABETMENT: BOMBAY HIGH COURT

Case Name: Vaibhav Mawale vs State of Maharashtra

The court discharged the case against a man filed for abetting the suicide of a woman with whom he broke up after a 9-year relationship. It observed that the physical relationship was consensual and not on a promise of marriage and the accused had not instigated to kill herself at any point in time.

FIRECRACKER BAN PROLONGED IN NCR DISTRICTS OF UTTAR PRADESH AND HARYANA: SUPREME COURT

Case Name: MC Mehta v. Union of India

The Supreme Court, while hearing the present case on air pollution, extended the ban on firecrackers in the National Capital Region(NCR) districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana until further orders. The Supreme Court has consistently advocated for strict implementation of firecracker bans to address air and noise pollution, citing citizens’ right to a clean environment under Article 21 of the Constitution.

WIFE’S HOSPITALIZATION IS NOT NECESSARY TO INVOKE S.498A, THE NARROW INTERPRETATION IS INCORRECT: DELHI HC

Case Name: Bilal Ansari V. State

The court has rejected the argument of a husband that hospitalization of his wife is necessary to prove cruelty under section 498A of IPC. It emphasized that the objective behind this section is to protect women from all types of cruelty not merely physical injury and observed that such requirement or narrow interpretation would block justice and silence the voices of many women who suffer abuse in private without hospitalization.
