Maratha Community’s Underrepresentation Disputed in Court
The Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that despite some political representation, the Maratha community faces significant underrepresentation, particularly in public employment. The government highlighted disparities in various sectors, noting that despite constituting 28% of the population, Marathas are inadequately represented. It argued that claims of Marathas being forward due to political representation, universities, and businesses lack quantifiable data. The government cited reports showing a decline in Maratha representation in government services and highlighted issues like poverty and farmer suicides within the community.
Maintenance for Woman in Long-Term Live-in Relationship
The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that a woman in a long-term live-in relationship is entitled to maintenance upon separation, even if not legally married. The court upheld a trial court’s decision ordering a man to pay a monthly allowance to a woman with whom he lived and had a child, despite the absence of a legally recognized marriage ceremony.
Abhishek Singhvi Challenges Rajya Sabha Poll Loss
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has moved the Himachal Pradesh High Court challenging his loss in the Rajya Sabha polls. Singhvi contested the interpretation of draw of lots rules after a tie in the election, which led to his opponent being declared the winner. He argued that the rules do not mandate that the person whose name is drawn from the lot is the loser and called the interpretation “defying common sense.”

Financial Assistance for Ex-Servicemen in Penury
(Ministry Of Defence)
- Scheme Description: Provides financial aid to non-pensioner Ex-Servicemen up to Havildar rank and their widows living in extreme poverty.
- Eligibility Criteria: Non-pensioner Ex-Servicemen or widows, rank of Havildar/equivalent, age 65 or above.
- Benefits: Rs. 4000/- per month, non-transferable, ceases upon death of recipient.
Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX)
(Ministry Of Defence)
- Scheme Description: Launched in May 2021 by Defence Innovation Organization for Defence Production, MoD.
- Objectives: Rapid development of new technologies, engagement with startups, technology co-creation.
- Benefits: Grants up to Rs. 1.5 Cr, support for prototype development, partner incubator support.
- Eligibility for iDEX Grants:Startups recognized by DIPP, Indian companies under Companies Act, MSMEs, individual innovators (to form a startup before grant agreement).Comply with DIPP startup definition, MSME Act for Indian companies.
