CJI RULES OUT RETURN TO OLD SYSTEM OF ADJOURNMENT LETTERS
Constitution Day Address by CJI Sanjiv Khanna
At the Constitution Day Function organised by the Bar Council of the Supreme Court, CJI Sanjiv Khanna rejected the request of restoring the old system of adjournment by letter circulation. CJI mentioned going back to the old system is Counter Productive. He also highlighted the numbers which came down from 1000 to 150 monthly. Also highlighted goal for improving infrastructural upgrades for lawyers. Also emphasized on the role of lawyers in making the judiciary efficient.

SUPREME COURT ORDERS TREE CENSUS IN TAJ TRAPEZIUM ZONE
Case Name: MC Mehta v. Union of India & Ors..
Recently, the Supreme Court of India issued notice regarding the illegal tree falling at the Taj Trapezium Zone. The Apex court stressed the need for a tree census in the area to curb the situation and instructed concerned authorities to make mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance with tree related laws. SC also mentioned the decline of forest cover i.e. around 9% in past years, so there is great need of protective measures.
Legal Framework and Provisions: Article 51A(g) of the Constitution mandates environmental protection as a fundamental duty. The Tree Authorities Act requires tree censuses to safeguard existing green cover.

LEGAL EDUCATION & SELF-DEFENSE IN SCHOOLS- PIL IN SC
Case Name: Geeta Rani v. Union of India & Ors..
Recently a plea regarding rising crime against children has raised concerns about the matter. The Supreme Court issued notice on the PIL demanding legal education and self defense training in the schools. The plea not oy highlighted the inadequate awareness of rights but also suggested how integrating these subjects can empower students and enhance their personal safety. This matter is listed for Jan 1,2025.
