STATUS REPORT ON ELEPHANT REHABILITATION IN BANDHAVGARH TIGER RESERVE: MADHYA PRADESH HC

Case Name: Nitin Singhvi Vs Union Of India And Ors.

While hearing a plea about the welfare of elephants in Bandavgarh Tiger Reserve ,the court instructed the authorities to file a status report on their rehabilitation under the Wild Life Protection Act, 1972 reiterating it’s previous order directing the competent authority to decide on the rehabilitation matter under Section 11(1)(a), specially second proviso of the said act.

Legal Provisions:

  • Section 11(1)(a), Wild Life Protection Act, 1972-Hunting of Wild animals to be permitted in certain cases.
  • Second Proviso- No captured animal shall be in captivity unless such animal cannot be rehabilitated in the wild.

VHP’S PLEA FOR STALL AT KOLKATA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR, 2025 REJECTED: CALCUTTA HC

Case Name: Vishva Hindu Parishad, Dakshinbanga & Anr. Vs. The State of West Bengal & Ors.

The court has dismissed the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Plea for a stall at the Kolkata International Book Fair, 2025 noting that the Publishers Guild association which rejected providing a stall cannot be treated as ‘other authorities’ under Article 12 and the denial from it  doesn’t violate any fundamental rights.

  • Article 12, The  Constitution of India- Defines the word ‘State’.

INSULTING POLITICAL PARTIES NOT ASSOCIATED WITH RELIGION DOESN’T ATTRACT S.295A: ALLAHABAD HC

Case Name: Faraheem Qureshi Vs. State of U.P.

The court held that merely insulting a political party or a group not associated with any religion doesn’t fulfill the criteria for invoking Section 295 A IPC as there must be malicious intention to insult religious feelings or beliefs while quashing a case against Faraheem Qureshi accused under the said section for allegedly criticizing the BJP through a social media post in 2019.

Legal Provisions:

  • Section 295A, Indian Penal Code- Acts, intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting its religious beliefs.
