Bombay High Court Urges Evidence for Advocates’ Plea

During a hearing, the Bombay High Court emphasized that advocates must abide by the law, considering a plea urging amendments to exempt advocates from certain IPC sections. The plea followed the alleged manhandling of protesting lawyers in Mumbai. The court sought evidence of the reported attacks, noting the absence of medical certificates documenting injuries. The Chief Public Prosecutor cited CCTV footage showing no illegality by the police. The bench directed the prosecutor to submit an affidavit in response to the plea, adjourning the hearing to May 16.

Bombay HC Directs NCB on Sameer Wankhede’s Enquiries

The Bombay High Court directed the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to provide details of materials collected in preliminary enquiries against former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede. Wankhede’s petition challenges summons issued against him in connection to these enquiries. The court sought information on complaints leading to the summons and actions taken by the NCB. It questioned overlapping reliefs sought by Wankhede in different forums. The court will hear the plea next on April 23.

Delhi Court Extends Manish Sisodia’s Custody

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court extended Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia’s custody in the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam until April 26. Sisodia, currently in Tihar jail, sought interim bail to campaign for polls. Meanwhile, Sarvesh Mishra, another accused, sought CCTV footage with audio from his questioning by the Enforcement Directorate. Mishra claimed the footage would discredit the agency’s case. The court addressed discrepancies in naming and documents submitted by the ED, directing no need for a fresh list.

GOVERNMENT SCHEMES 

National Handicraft Development Programme- Direct Benefit to Artisans

(Ministry of Textiles)

Overview:

The scheme “Direct Benefit to Artisans – Supports to Artisans in Indigent Circumstances,” a component of the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP) by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, aims to provide support to artisans during their old age.

Objectives:

The scheme seeks to uplift the handicraft sector in India by offering financial assistance to deserving artisans, thereby ensuring their well-being in their later years.

Benefits:

Eligible master craftspersons, recipients of prestigious awards, may receive assistance of up to ₹8,000 per month via PFMS/DBT. This aid can be in the form of a monthly allowance, lump sum grant, or both, helping artisans meet their financial needs.

Eligibility

: Applicants must be master craftspersons with awards, have an annual income not exceeding ₹1,00,000, and not be receiving similar aid elsewhere. Age requirement is 60 years, relaxable for disabled artisans with certification.

Scheme for Grant of Rewards to the Children of Salt Labourers 

(Ministry of Commerce and Industry)

Overview

: Initiated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the scheme aims to support the education of children of salt workers.

Objectives

: The scheme intends to alleviate financial burden by providing rewards to meritorious children of salt labourers, enabling them to cover initial expenses for education.

Benefits

: Rewards range from ₹1000 to ₹2000 per academic year based on the student’s class, assisting in the purchase of books and stationery. Preference is given to SC/ST/BC applicants, with a 50% reservation for girl children.

Eligibility:

Children of salt workers in Classes VI to XII, passing from recognized Government Schools, and completing exams in the first attempt are eligible. Continuous service of one year in salt works is required.
