Jus Soli

by | Jan 1, 2024

Jus SoliJus Soli, or “right of the soil,” is a legal doctrine that awards citizenship to individuals born within a country’s borders, irrespective of their parents’ nationality. This principle significantly influences citizenship laws, emphasizing the importance of birthplace in determining nationality.

  • Jus :- right or law
  • Soli :- soil or land

Example – A person born on U.S. soil to foreign parents automatically receives U.S. citizenship, irrespective of their parents’ nationality or immigration status.
