FIR QUASHING REJECTED OVER COMMENT REFERRING TO A WOMAN’S BODY STRUCTURE AS FINE: KERALA HC
Case Name: R. Ramachandran Nair V. State Of Kerala And Ors.
In a case where the accused made a sexually colored remark describing a woman’s body structure to be fine when she was working, the court rejected quashing the FIR observing that such a remark was Prima Facie Sexual Harassment. The court declined the accused’s contention that commenting on a body structure does not fall under Sections 354A(1)(iv) or 509 of the Indian Penal Code.

PLEA TO TERMINATE THE PREGNANCY OF A WOMAN WITH BELOW AVERAGE IQ QUESTIONED-BOMBAY HC
The court, while noting the willingness to marry the person who impregnated her, of an unmarried pregnant woman whose medical reports showed her below-average IQ and that she is not consenting to abortion, the court questioned the plea by her parents to terminate her pregnancy. The court directed the parents to communicate with the man and adjourned the hearing.

MANUAL SCAVENGER’S DEATH IS HOMICIDE BY THE INSENSITIVE SOCIETY, 10 LAKHS COMPENSATION AWARDED: MADRAS HC
Case Name: C Kannaiyan and Others v Deputy Commissioner of Labour – I
The court ordered the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewage Board to provide Rs 10 Lakh compensation to the family of a manual scavenger who died while doing the work in 2000. The court emphasized that carelessly disposing of waste in sewers and drains by people will cost many more lives which is nothing short of a homicide by the insensitive society.
