WITNESS CROSS-EXAMINATION CAN BE DONE BY ADVOCATES VIA VIDEO CONFERENCING: KERALA HC

Case Name: Alex C. Joseph v State of Kerala and Ors.

The instant case held that the court may permit advocates to cross-examine the witnesses through video conferencing.  The absence of expressly mentioned terms in Electronic Video Linkage Rules for Courts (Kerala), 2021 to do so is no reason why video conferencing must be disallowed. However valid reasons must be submitted before the court which include health conditions, inability to travel, etc.

NO FAKE NEWS ON DISPOSAL OF UNION CARBIDE AT PITHAMPUR: MADHYA PRADESH HC

Case Name: Alok Pratap Singh (Deceased) In Rem Vs. The Union Of India

The court has directed the media not to publish any fake news regarding the disposal of union carbide at Pithampur as it creates fear among the general public because the disposal was done following the previous court orders to clear up the waste material lying at the factory where the Bombay Gas tragedy took place and all the safety measures such as carrying in fireproof and leak-proof containers were taken.

SBI HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FRAUDULENT TRANSACTIONS IN CUSTOMER ACCOUNT: SUPREME COURT

Case Name: State Bank Of India Versus Pallabh Bhowmick & Ors.

In the case where the customer reported within 1 hour about the fraudulent transactions that happened in his account, the court made the State Bank of India (SBI) liable to refund the amount to the customer highlighting that banks must try to utilize the best of the technology available to avoid such transactions. The court also observed the need for customers to be careful and not to share OTP with third parties.
