POCSO CASE AGAINST MOHD ZUBAIR CLOSED IN 2023: STATE TO CHHATTISGARH HIGH COURT

Case Name: Mohd Zubair vs. State of Chhattisgarh


The Chhattisgarh High Court was informed that the POCSO case against Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair was closed in 2023. The case, filed over a 2020 tweet, was dismissed after police submitted a closure report. Zubair had earlier received interim relief from both the Delhi and Chhattisgarh High Courts.

BOMBAY HIGH COURT FINES ANIL AMBANI ₹25,000 FOR URGENT HEARING REQUEST IN TAX NOTICE CASE

Case Name: Anil Ambani vs. Deputy Director of Income Tax


The Bombay High Court fined Anil Ambani ₹25,000 for seeking an urgent hearing in his challenge against a 2022 tax notice. The Court criticized the artificial urgency and directed him to pay the costs to Tata Memorial Hospital. His counsel later withdrew the petition as tax authorities had already issued an order.

  • Income Tax Act, 1961- The case involved a challenge to a show cause notice issued under the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Court highlighted that such notices are part of the assessment process and do not generally warrant urgent hearings.

LOK SABHA PASSES WAQF AMENDMENT BILL AFTER INTENSE DEBATE

Bill Name: Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025


The Lok Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, after over 12 hours of debate. The Bill aims to enhance transparency in waqf property management. It introduces reforms, including removing “waqf by user” and allowing non-Muslims on the Waqf Council. The Bill faced strong opposition from various parties.

Legal Provision

  • Waqf Act, 1995 The bill amends the Waqf Act, 1995, governing waqf properties in India. It revises property declaration norms, restructures the Waqf Council, grants the Central government auditing powers, and enables appeals against Waqf Tribunal decisions before High Courts.
