Actus Dei Nemini Facit Injuriam

by | Mar 10, 2025

Meaning: The act of God causes injury to no one.

  • Actus – Act or action.
  • Dei – Of God (possessive form of “Deus,” meaning God).
  • Nemini – To no one or nobody.
  • Facit – Makes or causes.
  • Injuriam – Injury, harm, or injustice.

Interpretation: Storms, tempests, and the like, are acts of God, being inevitable accidents not caused by man. When an event is caused by the effect of nature without any human intervention, it is called ‘an act of God.’ No one is responsible for the inevitable accidents. The act of God prejudices no one.

Example: The court held strike to be an ‘act of god’ and said the maxim actus dei nemini facit injuriam applicable to such case.
